Professor Patrizia Caraveo is a astrophysicist , well known and appreciated both in her-own Country and in the rest of the world. She served as researcher, teacher (as professor of Astronomy at University of Pavia), leader of relevant projects and is the Director of the Space Astrophysics and Cosmic Physics Institute (IASF) of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) in Italy. Her very outstanding career was characterized by brilliant ideas, strong determination, hard and competitive work and mostly true passion for high-energy space missions. She contributed to major issues in astrophysics and shared for 3 times the Bruno Rossi Prize of the American Astronomical Society in 2007 (SWIFT), in 2011 (Fermi), and in 2012 (AGILE) as Co-Investigator. Currently, she is Co-chair of the Astronet Panel High-energy, astro-particle astrophysics and gravitational waves.
Caraveo’s scientific career spans almost 30 years and commend about 350 paper published on international referee journals and about 200000 citations.
Indeed, full endorsing the WIA approach of expanding women’s opportunities for leadership and increasing their visibility in the aerospace sector, Patrizia Caraveo always devolved time and energy to mentoring and forming the next generation with a special attention to recognize the achievements of women in her sector. She is still a tutor and a point of reference for many students and young colleagues.
