NASA’s Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover, or VIPER, is a mobile robot that will go to the South Pole of the Moon to get a close-up view of the location and concentration of water ice that could eventually be harvested to sustain human exploration on the Moon, Mars and beyond. VIPER represents the first resource mapping mission on another celestial body. It is planned for delivery to the lunar surface in late 2023.
Mercedes Herreras, Space Systems Engineer at NASA’s Ames Research Center, will give a speech on VIPER mission and her tasks on it, at the next online #Women4Space conference on 21st at 5:00 pm (CEST). Mercedes, has a master’s degree in aerospace engineering at Arizona State University, and her VIPER role is Risk Manager and Lead Systems Engineer.
