Empowering all Women, in Space and on Earth

WIA-Europe & TU Vienna Scholarship Winner Testimonial

The new partnership between Women In Aerospace Europe and TU Wien offered our members the unique opportunity of an exclusive scholarship for the Executive MBA Space Architecture programme that started in March 2024. Marilia Matos, winner of the WIA-Europe/TU Wien Scholarship reflects on her experience with the programme:

When I read about the E-MBA in Space Architecture and the possibility of having the scholarship from Women in Aerospace – Europe, I was very excited to apply for a postgraduate course that is compatible with my professional career and that allows me to learn about business development in the Space community (which is where I come from).

The experience so far goes beyond what I expected. During the course, we have been followed and taught by real experts in the field, with in-person visits to successful companies in the aerospace field and provided with valuable lessons learned from start-ups. This September we will have the Learning Journey in Houston where we will have the opportunity to visit iconic sites such as the Space Center Houston and engage in Space Architecture workshops with SICSA’s Master students. This is a part of the course I am very looking forward to!

We always have a pre-assignment, a group work and a final report for each module, being it more intense than I ever thought it could be, but I am truly learning a lot about business, management, and even space, my own field! I appreciate how the technical aspects are consistently present, which allows me to put my engineering skills into practice as well.

The colleagues are also very important. We are a group of very different people, coming from various backgrounds, but I find that during the course we are truly connecting and learning from each other in an interdisciplinary environment.

As I expected and I referred to in my motivation letter, this course is helping me as a professional young woman to obtain further capabilities and qualifications to contribute to an even more ambitious and efficient space agenda. Indirectly, it is contributing to lessening my Imposter Syndrome that women in our field tend to suffer from while improving my communications skills and broadening my network in the field.

The TU Vienna MBA programme bridges the gap between economics, engineering, architecture, and other technical and social sciences, connecting space and Earth. This unique interdisciplinary MBA imparts knowledge and know-how about new technologies and strategies for planning, building, and living in space. Learn more >>
