On the 7th March the National Space Centre, with WIA-E UK & WISE, hosted a Women in Space Networking Lunch. Organised by Keriann Shaw, the speakers were Elizabeth Seward from Airbus, Dr Alice Bunn from the UK Space Agency and Prof Carole Mundell from the University of Bath.
Elizabeth introduced the Gender Pay Gap reporting that from the 4th April is mandatory for companies over 250 people, what the statistics show and what that means for gender equality.
Alice highlighted the way in which the UK is playing a key role in international space policy and creating new regulations, as well as highlighting the lack of women in senior positions in space agencies around the world.
Carole talked about her experiences in setting up a new department in Astrophysics at the University of Bath and then applying for and taking on the role of Head of Physics, sharing both the career and family decisions she had to make.
The talks were followed by a structured networking session where Princess Anne came to visit and spent time talking to participants. The event was rounded up by a delicious networking lunch.
