Cosine
company visit
22 January 2019
19.00 – 22.30
company visit organized by the Netherlands Space Society
in collaboration with Cosine measurement systems
Cosine develops and builds measurement systems for its customers. These find use in scientific, industrial, medical, environmental, energy, agri/food, security, semiconductor and space applications, with customers ranging from small high-tech companies to the European Space Agency, IBM and Airbus.
The cosine team consists of 40 highly educated people who develop transparently in close collaboration with the customer. With their broad experience in different technological areas they provide innovative, out-of-the-box measurement solutions. Technologies span the field of applied physics, with extensive experience in spectroscopy, lasers, radiation and 3D imaging systems.
During the company visit special attention will be given to two challenging space projects, in which cosine is involved: HyperScout and Silicon Pore Optics (SPO).
HyperScout is the first ever miniaturized hyperspectral imager with its own brain. It is designed to be operated on nano-, micro- and larger satellites. The extremely compact reflective telescope ensures high optical quality in the VNIR range. The onboard data handling system is made for real-time data processing, enabling Level-2 generation onboard processing and therefore drastically reducing the amount of data to be downloaded and processed. The first HyperScout instrument was launched into space on 2 February 2018, on board the nanosatellite GOMX-4B as part of a mission of the European Space Agency.
SPO is the novel technology that produces the building blocks for Athena’s modular X-ray telescope, enabling the production of the largest X-ray optic ever flown. cosine is involved in the development and production of SPO, including the production of silicon mirror plates, the cost-effective robotic stacking process, the creation of mirror modules, their characterization at X-ray facilities and in-house shock and vibration testing.
